Box 12-11: "Massaging " the Near-Reactive Energy Field

Near Field Energetic Massage

Begin by touching the auric / near reactive field very lightly. If you can’t feel it at first, try imagining that you are trying to make contact with an extremely thin and delicate spider’s web that is suspended just over an inch from your body; your goal is to interact with the web without breaking it. During this exercise, make no contact with your physical body. If you are new to this kind of practice, at first you might not feel anything special at all. In that case, just imagine that you are feeling and interacting with it. Through regular practice, one’s experience of the field becomes increasingly palpable and “real.”

During the practice, explore the tactile sensations associated with the near reactive field. Start by feeling for the near field that radiates off the arm, and then try to sense the feeling of the radiating field at other places about your body. See if you can feel the field near your shoulders, and then the head, and so forth.

As you gain confidence in your ability to sense and interact with the near reactive field, continue to pay attention to the sensations associated with it. Those sensations are the keys to mastery of your mind-body energy fields.

As you explore the sensations associated with the near reactive field, pay close attention to the changes you notice in the boundaries of the field. Continue to explore the limits of the field, observing your thoughts and feelings as you do, and noting which of these affects the field and makes it expand or shrink.

As you gain confidence with the practice, notice the limits surrounding your body and how they increase or decrease as you go about your day. Notice how positive emotions, such as trust and love, expand the boarders of the field, and how negative emotions, such as fear or anger, constrict the boundaries.

If you are new to this kind of practice and can’t seem to feel the near reactive field right away, don’t be discouraged. It is helpful for newcomers to the exercise to imagine that they are feeling the near reactive field. Through regular practice, one’s experience of the field becomes increasingly palpable and “real.”
